Riley Michael became the first male provincial champion from the Campbell River Gymnastics Association as the club enjoyed a record showing at the recent provincial championship meet in North Vancouver.
Club members combined for more than 20 medals and numerous top-10 finishes, a CRGA record for one provincial championships.
Michael swept the gold medals on all six apparatus — high bar, rings, pommel horse, parallel bars, vault and floor exercise — en route to his all-around championship.
Carson Ogg finished runner-up in the boys Level 3 (under 13) division while claiming the provincial championship on parallel bars and a bronze medal on the pommel horse. Reese Wheeldon added an all-around bronze medal in the girls Level 8 (2000-01) division while earning a silver on the beam and bronze on the floor exercise.
Liam Deagle won provincial championships on both floor and parallel bars and captured the silver medal on high bar in the boys Level 4 (over 13) class.
Other individual apparatus medal winners include Quinn Kuschel-Ross (silver medals on pommel horse and parallel bars and bronze on both rings and high bar (boys Level 4 over 13); Mackenzie Johnson (silver on vault, JO Level 7 1997-2001); Nya Chailler (bronze on floor, JO Level 7 2004-05), Chloe Doyon (bronze on vault, JO Level 8 2002-04); Janika Scriba (bronze on bars, JO Level 8 2002-04); and Nathan Kerluck (bronze on rings, boys Level 3 under 13).
