Dean Thulin Rink qualifies for curling provincials

The Campbell River curling team skipped by Dean Thulin was one of the four qualifiers at last weekend’s Coastal Senior Men’s playdowns hosted at the Comox Valley Curling Club.

The Thulin rink finished with a five-win, one-loss record to become the “B” event qualifier. Joining Dean was third Lyle Boyce, second Don Pennell and lead Tom Green. The “A” qualifier was skipped by Greg McAulay out of the Richmond Curling Club. Sandy Grieg, also playing out of the Richmond Curling Club, and a team skipped by Wayne Harris who plays out of the Comox Valley Curling Club were the two “C” qualifiers. The teams advancing to provincial play will join four other teams who have qualified in their respective playdowns on the mainland. The provincial will be played in Kamloops, beginning Tuesday, February 22 and finishing up on the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 26. The eight teams will play a round-robin format with the top three teams after round robin play advancing to the playoffs. The provincial winners will represent B.C. at the Canadian Championships in Digby, Nova Scotia, March 19-26.
