The Carihi girls are hosting the North Island soccer finals on Monday.

Last Thursday and Friday, Carihi also hosted the annual Investors Cup Challenge and finished runners-up to a powerhouse squad from Victoria’s Stelly’s.

In spite of the loss in the final, the local girls played a strong tournament. They opened with a 4-1 win over Kelowna, spanked St. Patrick’s of Vancouver 6-2, and edged the Brooks ‘A’ squad of Powell River 2-1 in the semi-final.

On the other side of the draw, Stelly’s chalked up victories over Panorama, Ballenas and Dover Bay to advance to the final.

Stelly’s won last year’s Investor’s Cup and the team followed up with a dominating 4-0 victory over the host team. Stelly’s scored all its goals in the first half and used several substitutes in the final 35 minutes of regulation.

The North Island tournament takes place Monday on the Carihi lower fields and will determine seeding for the Island Championships on May 13-14, in Nanaimo.
