The Carihi boys curling team is preparing for the Provincial High School Championships in Smithers March 1-5.

Skip Cody Chamberlin, Third Zach Baycroft, Second Greg Curtis and Lead Dayton Belanko earned that right after winning the Island High School Championships in Qualicum on Jan. 28-29.

They won that event with a record of three wins and one loss. They won their first game against Mt. Doug 8-4, following up with a win against KSS, the defending champions from Qualicum, 8-4. They lost their third game against Claremont 6-4, and, finally, beat Ballenas 10-6 to clinch the championship.

This is the first time in 27 years that a team from Carihi has qualified for provincial championships for curling.

They are looking forward to this amazing opportunity, and chance to represent both Carihi and Campbell River at this event. They will be holding several fundraisers in the next week.

A burger and beer night on Monday, Feb. 27 at Quay West, a bottle drive on Sunday, Feb. 26 and a GoFundMe account at www.gofundme.com/provincial-high-school-playdowns has been opened.
