The Campbell River Skating Club held their 2018 gala on Saturday afternoon, giving its members the chance to showcase their skills to an enthusiastic crowd at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
The club has been offering skating programs in the community since 1972, according to director of publicity Bev Schulte.
“We take pride in providing exceptional Skate Canada skating programs for skaters of all ages, disciplines and skill levels,” Schulte says. “This season our club is over 100 members strong, and it was great to see, once again, our entire membership – from Learn To Skate members to aspiring Gold Skate members – on the ice together on the same day putting on a great show for our community.”
By offering a wide range of programs, Schulte says, the club helps build the fundamental skills needed for skaters to excel in hockey or figure skating – or just to have fun and make some friends along the way.
While their figure skating program contains both sport and artistic components, allowing skaters to perfect techniques such as jumps and spins, they also offer power skating classes to hockey players looking to improve their power or fine tune their skating skills, helping them acheive their goals on the ice and be more effective players all-around.
