Campbell River's Junior B lacrosse team gets it down in Saanich with just 12 players

On Saturday, Campbell River’s Junior B lacrosse Ravens took only 12 players on the road to face the league-leading Saanich Tigers.

The Tigers struck early and often to end the first period leading 5-3. Raven’s Goals in the came from Kris Hebert, Braden Howes and Damien Marriot-Spencer.

Campbell River came out firing in the second period. Howes and Marriot-Spencer notched his second while Tyson Fair and Aaron Marlow scored singles to bring the Ravens to within one after 40 minutes.

Despite a short bench, and supported by an outstanding effort by Logan Down between the pipes, the Ravens stepped up the attack in the third. Fair scored twice and Marriot-Spencer scored once as they each completed a hat trick. Defensively, the Ravens held the Tigers to a single to finish the game with a 10-9 upset.

Many key pieces fell into place Saturday as Campbell River earned a much-needed road win. Despite the exhaustion of having only 11 runners, the Ravens maintained discipline and took only one penalty in the third period. After 60 minutes, Campbell River had served only 18 minutes in the box compared to the 39 served by Saanich.

Campbell River will finish out the regular season with home games on July 7-8.
