Gavin Sam had five goals and two assists Saturday as the Campbell River Ravens bantam B lacrosse squad continued its winning ways with a 13-3 romp over the Alberni Valley Tyees at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.

The team then traveled to Parksville Sunday and outdueled Oceanside 13-12 in a high-scoring shootout.

The wins were the fourth and fifth straight for the Ravens following an opening-day loss at Saanich, and left Campbell River in a first-place tie in the Bantam B standings with a 5-1 mark.

On Saturday, the Ravens charged quickly out of the gate against the Tyees (2-4), punching home five unanswered goals in the opening 10 minutes of play. Sam was in on four of them with a hat trick and an assist.

Alberni managed to put a pair on the board before the end of the period, but they were matched by the Ravens, including another goal by Sam with nine seconds left in the period.

Campbell River pushed its lead to 11-3 through two periods before turning the game over to goalie Nathan Sam and the defence.

Nathan Sam turned aside several quality breakaway chances by the Tyees to keep Alberni off the board in the final period.

Carson Foy contributed two goals and two assists in the win, and Jonathan Takach added a goal and two assists.

Heydon Campbell, Dylan Christensen and Ethan Mainprize each found the onion bag once.

Ridge Rosa, Christensen and Lochlain O’Leary contributed helpers.

The Ravens travel to Cowichan Valley for a contest Saturday before returning to the Brindy Sunday for a 1:30 p.m. showdown with Juan de Fuca B1 (4-1).
