Okay, I have to admit, my first response to the city’s new one garbage can limit was to say, “Oh, I guess I’ll have to get one of those bigger cans with the wheels on them.”

For a measly $60 million or so, the Canadian taxpayer can build at least four more cruise ship terminals along the inside passages.

For the first time in 3 1/2 years my garbage can was tagged at the curb for being too large.

If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

The rusty machination that serves as this country’s woeful freedom of information system isn’t issue enough to get Canadians rushing to the polls. But voters turn out if they get a sense government is being dishonest with the public.

I have been designing, building and repairing welded aluminum boats for 35 years. During that time frame, I have owned two aluminum boat manufacturing companies that have designed and constructed over 900 vessels up to 46 feet in length, not to mention the hundreds of hull and structural repairs we have done to existing aluminum vessels. I have been involved in modification and repairs to both the Point Henry and Point Race over their 30 years of service.

The old saying used to go: there are lies, damned lies and statistics.

In light of two recent house fires, we should all be thinking about fire safety and prevention.
