Why spend $80,000 when we can’t balance the budget?

I hope that I am not the only one that noticed the article in your March 16 issue that the city plans to spend $80,000 on two vehicles (these are compact cars folks, not big work trucks).

Then in the March 18 issue, we are warned about an impending tax increase because the city cannot balance a budget.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but if I had no money to pay my bills, I wouldn’t be buying $80,000 worth of new vehicles that insurance would have replaced at no cost.

It makes me wonder how that thought process works.
