Trash

This is a sharing of disappointment about the hot topic of the week – you guessed it, the garbage pick up.

This is a sharing of disappointment about the hot topic of the week – you guessed it, the garbage pick up.

I have lived in Campbell River all my life (36 years). I remember when the garbage dump was this huge hole in the ground.

Now I am sad to say, it is a mountain. I read one comment this week that said “I see no abuse in putting out enormous amounts of garbage.”

There is a lot wrong with putting out a lot of garbage. That means you are not doing your part to help our environment and teaching our children the benefits of recycling.

I have a family of four (two are teens). We typically only have one garbage can a week. Yes it was the big 120 litre garbage can (we already recycle).

But instead of complaining about the new limit, we are using this as an opportunity to really teach our children about recycling. We will be less than the 80 litre every week.

There are some cities that only allow one 80 litre garbage can every two weeks. They have to do their part and recycle everything or they may be fined.

I just hope people really see what the bigger picture is and do their part.

We all have to live on this planet.

Still loving Campbell River.
