No mention at all of the damage caused by commercial fish farms within our precious wild salmon population

Re: Advocate touts fish farming?s role in food security (Mirror, Sept. 25, 2014).

I was disheartened to read Mike Davies’ article which portrays fish farms as the “gold standard” and the answer to our planet’s looming food security problems. There was no mention at all of the damage caused by commercial fish farms within our precious wild salmon population on the West Coast, which is the heritage of First Nations peoples and all B.C. residents.

Mr. Villalon’s position sounds a lot like what we’ve been hearing from the Harper government in the past decade, while systematically gutting the Fisheries and Oceans Ministry and gagging those few scientists left who know the truth. Let’s hear more from the bone fide experts who have real experience in our waters instead of promoting the views of an organization based in Europe.
