Campbell River Hospital project not put at risk

I am pleased to see the Liberal candidate is now involved with our hospital issue

Re: Liberals’ Statements in Friday, May 1 Mirror

I am pleased to see the Liberal candidate is now involved with our hospital issue since it was the Liberals who tried to reduce our Campbell River Hospital to nothing more than a first aid station but were overwelmed with opposition which eventually changed that plan.

I feel I need to clarify a couple of statements issued by the Liberals in their advertisement on May 1 in the Mirror as they are not correct.

The statement that Claire Trevena opposes development of resource jobs is erroneous. The statement that she and the BC NDP are placing the new hospital and promised 36 more alternate level care beds at risk is completely false. The true fact is that  Claire has worked hard for six years to ensure Campbell River and the Comox Valley both have a fully functioning acute care hospital with all the current services retained. She has convened regular hospital stakeholder meetings for six years, worked with the doctors, North Island mayors and councillors, First Nations, Citizens for Quality Health Care, nurses, other hospital employees, CR Hospital Foundation, CR Hospital Auxiliary, Chamber of Commerce, etc. as well as all levels of government.  Having attended all those meetings, we can all attest to her continual devotion to our hospital, related services and her constituents. Claire has also worked hard on getting the alternate level  care beds which have been promised.

She has proven herself to be a very capable, experienced hard working MLA.
