The Campbell River Mirror would like to issue an apology to the family of Jacob Lawrence for the way we handled his tragic motorcycle accident in Wednesday’s paper.
The loss of a young person in our community is always a tragic event and that should be the focus of any report on that loss. Our story lost sight of that focus and has upset many people in the community in addition, undoubtedly, to the family involved.
We have reviewed our approach to this kind of story and would like to reassure our readers that sensitivity to the impact of our reporting on families and the community will always be included in the editorial decision-making process.
