It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, William (Bill) McSeveney, on August 9/19. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and on his own terms. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Lillian, daughter Alison Goertzen (Ted), son Bill McSeveney (Sondra) and grandchildren Meghan Jenkins (Matt), Mathew Goertzen and Nicholette McSeveney and his sister in Scotland Nan McGinnes (John). He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary, and brothers James and Thomas.
Bill was born in Twechar Scotland on July 6 1930. He emigrated to Petawawa, Ontario in 1953 as a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons after serving with the Lifeguards in Scotland 1950-1953. In 1957 he moved to Creston BC where he met Lillian Berg. They married in 1959.
Bill attended barber school in 1960 then opened his own barber shop in Creston. His brother, Jim, joined him in 1966 as a partner, as did his sister, Mary, as a hairdresser.
In 1974 Bill left barbering to join Canada Customs and transferred to Campbell River in 1976. He retired from Customs in 1996.
Bill was very active in the communities he lived in. He was a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, served on the Creston school board, in Campbell River on the Board of Variance, Masonic Lodge, Legion, Shriners, United Church, was chairman of the Campbell River Hospital community health council. He also formed the Campbell River MS Society. He managed the Campbell River Legion Pipe Band while his two children were band members.
The family would like to thank Dr R Ramsey, Dr A Farias and all the nurses and HCA's that cared for him during his 7 month stay in the Campbell River Hospital.
He left a huge impression in our lives and will never be forgotten and always missed.
A memorial service will be held on August 30 at 2 pm at the Campbell River United Church.
