WILLIAM (BILL) HOCKING
June 23, 1927 – May 07, 2009
Bill passed away peacefully on May 7, 2009 at the Campbell River and District General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Bill will be sadly missed and forever loved by Kathleen (Kay) his Wife of nearly 57 years, his three children Brent, Cheryl and Glenn (Valerie) and his beloved grandchildren Shayla, Sarah, Emilie, Nicole and Jonathan all with whom he had a very special relationship.
Bill is also survived by his loving Sisters Doreen, Betty, and Barbara who reside in Ontario. Bill will be fondly remembered by his extended family and many friends he made over a lifetime.
Born in South Porcupine located in Northern Ontario, Bill was 12 years old when his Father passed away. At age 16, Bill started working in the mines in both Northern Ontario and Quebec. In 1965 Bill and Kay moved to Fraser Lake and Bill continued working in Endako Mines until his retirement. During his mining career he was a chief Assayer for Placer Dome for almost 50 years.
In 1992 Bill and Kay came to live in Campbell River where Cheryl and her family reside. Both immediately became very active members of the Campbell River Baptist Church and Kay hosted a Support Group for the Cancer Society. Their home has always had an open door, many in need passing by for a cup of tea, coffee, an ever listening ear or some of Kay’s famous Butter Tarts. After 57 years of marriage Bill and Kay cherished each other. They loved going on daily walks together, meeting friends for coffee, or gathering with their Church Life Group.
A man of integrity, Bill’s sense of humor, his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need will be sorely missed by his loving family and many friends and those who passed by their home in need of their comfort and caring.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at the Campbell River Baptist Church on Wednesday May 13, 2009 at 11:00 am Pastor Randy Evans officiating. Memorial Tributes for the Family can be left at www.MeM.com.
