William Arthur (Bill)

passed away suddenly on January 29, 2003 in Merritt, BC.

Born July 8, 1941 in Vancouver, married May 18, 1970 in Campbell River, Bill is survived by his loving wife Alix M. (Grass) Ridley, daughter Judie Martin (Maurice Greer) grandson Brandon Martin, daughter Theresa Martin (John Parsons), granddaughter Alisha Forster, sister-in-law “Sue” Ridley, niece Candy-Lea Chickite (George Quocksister), nephew Kelly (Laura) Ridley, great nephews and niece Ronnie & Eddie Chickite and Rachel, Kyle & Cody Ridley. Also survived by one aunt Annie (Ridley) Young, and 5 cousins and extended family that he was very close to (especially his mother’s cousin “Aunt Ora” Franzen). Predeceased by his parents Charles E.M. and Uneata E. (Cates) Ridley, and brother Capt. Charles R. (Bob) Ridley.

He was raised in West Vancouver, moved to Quadra Island in the early 1970’s, operated a taxi company and managed the fuel dock in Quathiaski Cove. Following this, he lived in several places: Surrey, Kanaka Bar, Lytton, Ashcroft, Spences Bridge, and the Nicola Valley.

He spent 22 years with the Volunteer Firefighters Association and 14 years as their Sec/Treasurer. For most of his life he drove school busses, and currently he was the president of the C.U.P.E. 173 Union.A Celebration of life was held at the Civic Centre in Merritt B.C. on Sunday, Feb. 2nd, 2003 at 2:30p.m. Sadly missed by family and friends.
