WALTRAUD “WALLY” BANSEMER

May 8, 1921 – June 3, 2009

Waltraud passed away peacefully at home on the evening of June 3rd, 2009, at the age of 88 years, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Friedrich, in 2001 and is survived by her seven children, Rita (Ed) Anderson, Marianne (Greg) Hewitt, Karin (Bill) Nielsen, Maureen (Gary) Gallinger, Fred (Mary) Bansemer, Christel (Greg) Moffat and Reni (Hamish) Forbes. She was “Oma” to eleven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Waltraud was born in Dortmund, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1953 with her Husband and three children. After a few years in Alberta and two more children, they moved to Courtenay, where they completed their family. In 1964 they settled in Campbell River.

She was known as “Wally” by her friends and the highlight of her week was the TOPS group, she had been a member of since 1977.

Her last two years were spent with her daughters in Valemount and Clearwater and then finally back to the coast and Quadra Island.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate Waltraud’s Life was held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, June 9th, 2009, with the Reverend Dr. Blair Haggart officiated.

The family would like to thank the Home Care Nurses, Home Support Team and Dr. Graham, Dr. Friderichs and Dr. Latham for their care and attention shown to our Mother.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, Donations may be made to either the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, 381 - 2nd Avenue, Campbell River, BC, V9W 7L1 or to the Canadian Red Cross, British Columbia/Yukon Office, P.O. Box 4664 STN Terminal, Vancouver, BC, V6B 4A1.
