Walter Gordon Sovde

July 17, 1924 – May 24, 2015

Dad was born in Vancouver but was never a city boy. He grew up and attended school in Blind Channel before joining the Navy at the age of 18. He served for 4 years during WWII and then went on to travel the world for a year and a half with the Merchant Marines.

After returning to the coast, he lived on Hardwicke Island before settling in Campbell River in 1952. He worked as a logger, boom man at Elk Falls, commercial fisherman and even tried his hand as an insurance salesman. He then spent many years as a faller before enjoying retirement. He also owned and operated the Panorama Motel and built his family a beautiful home on the beach where he enjoyed living for almost 60 years.

Dad was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and cruise the local coastal waters that he knew so well. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, as well as a member of the RC Legion Branch #137. Dad also enjoyed the many hours that he spent working with Job’s Daughters.

Walter is survived by his children Sandra (Michael), David and Patricia (Bruce); grandchildren Sean, Lindsay, Coleton and Zach; great-grandchildren Taylor, Kai, Joshua and Quinn and nephew Roger. He also leaves behind his loving wife, Muriel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Goodbye to a kind, caring, gentle man with a deep voice and one hell of a handshake!

We are going to miss you Dad.
