Jean was born in Beaver Crossing, AB. She is predeceased by her Mother and Father, Virgil and Olive (Defoe) York and her two brothers Clarke and Con and her husband, Jim. Jean is survived by her two brothers, Bud and Lyle.
Jean married Jim Nikolaisen in Campbell River, 1954 and they had 5 children. Jean joined the North Van Girl Guides in the 70's and helped shape the lives of hundreds of girls. When Jean's husband came down with MS he retired and they moved back to Vancouver Island in 1990. The experience of caring for her husband motivated her to help create the Caregivers Support Group in Campbell River. Jean was an avid crafter, she also wrote two family history books.
Jean passed away from Heart failure and Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer in the Campbell River hospital surrounded by her family. Always such a beautiful soul Jean was loving, kind, charitable, witty and crafty she will be missed by all those she touched.
There will be a close family and friends gathering at her graveside on July 26th. Jean's Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Black Creek Community Center on July 27th. Ceremony 10:30-11:00, lunch 11:00-3:00pm.
