Passed away peacefully in Campbell River on January 3, 2005 - aged 87 years.

Verne is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Laura. Three children: son Jim (Judi), daughters Laura-Jean (Brian) and Lee (Dennis). He also leaves 6 grandchildren: Wayne (Sue, Robert, Len (Colleen), Gordon (Kate), Tracy (Matt), Jason and Justin (Danielle) and 9 great grandchildren: Lindsay, Tyler, Amanda, Terry, Colton, Tessa, Ryan, Brooke and Carter. One brother, Percy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Verne was a long time resident of Campbell River. He was employed by Campbell River Woodworkers (Beaver Lumber) from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. He was a founding member of the Campbell River Curling Club, a life time member of Odd Fellows, O.A.P. and the Campbell River Rock and Gem Club. He was instrumental in forming the Campbell River Credit Union along with his brother Carroll and wife Nancy Spiers.

During his retirement Verne and Laura enjoyed traveling, especially in their fifth wheel trailer, spending many enjoyable winters in Arizona.

He was an avid sports fisherman and hunter. And in his later years enjoyed rock hounding and lapidary work.

Memorial for Verne to be held at Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch 137, Sunday January 9, 2005, 1:30. Tea to follow.
