Thomas Victor

Hartford

April 8, 1944 -

Sept. 11, 2010

With great sadness we announce the passing of Tom Hartford who died after a long struggle with aplastic anemia. Tom died with dignity, strength, and courage

in Vancouver General Hospital in the early morning hours of September 11th.

Tom leaves behind his wife, Gloria, and his two children, Gary (Leila) and Donna (Will). Tom is grandfather to Jonah, Zosia, and Chloe who will miss him dearly. Tom is survived by his mother, Emma Hartford, and his brothers, Pat and Dennis (Vicky), and his sister Faye. Tom was pre-deceased by his father, Harold “Vic” Hartford, in 2009 and sister in

law, Sylvia McMullen, in 2009.

Tom was born in Port Alice, and after spending his earliest years in Coal Harbour, returned to Port Alice until his late teens. He began his electrical apprenticeship in Ocean Falls in 1965. In Ocean Falls he met his wife, Gloria, who joined him Gold River in 1969 where they lived for 36 years. While in Gold River Tom worked as an electrician at the pulp mill. Tom served his community through volunteering with the Lions Club for 34 years. He continued his service to community after retiring to Campbell River assisting with the Willow Point Lions Club, Meals on Wheels, and the Food Bank.

Tom loved reading, particularly science fiction and west coast history, and listening to music, especially the blues. Tom was very fond of his dog Angus and enjoyed walking him. He was gentle and kind man. He loved to socialize and was quick with a story or a joke. If he met you and liked you he would never forget you.

In lieu of flowers we encourage donations in memory of Tom to the leukemia/bone marrow transplant program at VGH. To do so, contact Chelsey Ireland, Community Giving Assistant, at the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation directly at 604-875-4676 extension 68778.

A Celebration of Tom’s Life will take place at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 18th at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 228 South Dogwood Street.
