March 17, 1932 - June 12, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful mom. She valiantly fought bladder cancer for 20+ years never complaining, but rather living life to the fullest of her ability. She left us peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mom was born in Russell, MB to Mike and Katherine Lopushinsky. At an early age mom went to work in Binscarth to help support the family. After working various jobs in and around her hometown roots in Manitoba, she met the love of her life Ken. They were married October 27, 1951 and soon moved to Prince Rupert.
While in Prince Rupert they had their three children. In 1965 it was time to move the family to Campbell River where they had a wonderful life, filled with many memorable friendships and events.
Mom was a very active, fit individual. She was a fierce accomplished competitor in softball, curling, bowling and after retiring, the game of golf. Like anything she set out to do, she did it with everything she had. She worked as a cashier at Super Valu for many years until her retirement.
After retirement she and dad spent the better part of 20 years RVing throughout Canada and the US. They had many years to expand their list of many friends from all over. Mom had a passion for the Casino and made many friends when she frequently visited Chances. She also loved her scratch tickets to take up some of her time in the evenings.
Mom was a fabulous cook, and there was always an open door policy to come in, share a meal, and a glass of homemade wine! She had a vibrant, fun loving spirit that was contagious, and I know our heavy hearts are shared with so many.
She was predeceased by her husband Ken (2011), her parents Mike and Katherine, brothers Steve, Bill, Sam, Paul , Pete and sister Mary.
She is survived by her sons Randy (Sylvia) of Edmonton, Grant (Carrie) and daughter Lonnie (Robin), her grandchildren Ashley (Neil), Adina (Mario), great grandchildren Khloe, Kesler, Peyton, Drew and Harper, her extended family, Rus, Lynn, Jennifer, Isaac and Sam of Victoria, brother Nick (Liz & Family) Rossburn & Russell MB, sister Isabelle (Howard & Family) Prince Rupert, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She leaves many very special friends who throughout the past few years were so very helpful to lend a hand and just being there for and with her.
A special thank-you to Lynn and Rosie who were our pillars of strength helping us through the final days with mom. Without you, we could not have given mom her final wishes - which was to be at home with family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Prinsloo for the many years of compassionate care he gave to mom. As she would say "he is just the best". Also a thank-you to the home care nurses who were so kind.
She touched many lives in a positive way and will be missed by all who knew her. Fondly remembered and greatly loved.
A celebration of life will be held when Covid restrictions will permit. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the B.C. Cancer Foundation or to Cameryn's Cause (https://www.camerynscause.com/) in honour of Stella.
