Shelia Elizabeth Penman (nee Thom)

March 21, 1931 – November 28, 2019
Early on Thursday, November 28th, Shelia Elizabeth Penman a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend quietly passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She lived life to the fullest, in a quiet, unassuming yet formidable manner. She was never one to seek out attention or accolades working tirelessly behind the scenes for many different organizations over the years. Her reward was in the joy and comfort it brought to others. Her expectations of herself and others were always high but attainable. Shelia believed in the best in everyone. Her attention to detail was especially evident in her numerous quilts. Shelia leaves a hole in the lives of her family and friends that can never be filled.
Born in Ocean Falls, BC on March 21, 1931 to George and Ina Thom; Shelia was the youngest of 4 children. She met the love of her life, Douglas at a baseball game in May 1951 and they were married the following April. They had three children: Maureen (Jim), Heather, and Mark (Sharon); four grand children: Kristy (Keith), Jody (Matt), Matthew (Aly), and Hayley (Lorenzo); and six great grandchildren: Owen, Caydence, Carys, Kael, Charlie, and Milo. Shelia also leaves behind her sister Margaret, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves behind her dear friend of 73 years Dot, as well as many other friends that were dear to her heart. Shelia was predeceased by both her parents and brothers Billy and George.
The family would like to thank Dr. Keith Graham, Dr. Benjamin Yokoyama, and the staff at the Christine Morrison Hospice for the care they gave to Shelia.
A private, family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Cancer Society for myeloproliferative neoplasm research or Christine Morrison Hospice.
