May 15, 1944 - October 5, 2017

Sam passed away unexpectedly at the Campbell River Hospital at 2:02 pm on October 5th surrounded by many family members as he took his last breath.

Left behind with loving memories is her daughter, Shelley Henderson, Carla Joseph Matilpi (God-daughter), Ernie Puglas (God-Son), adopted daughter (through custom adoption) Erica Haunch (Travis), honorary son Ronnie Chickite (Lennai), and honorary grand-daughters Taylor Tipper, Karsyn Chickite and Ryan Chickite.

Survived by his brothers Tom, Bill and John; and sisters Mary, Edith, Katie, Maggie, Norine, Nadine, and Laverne.

Also survived by many in-laws, Uncles and Aunts, nieces and nephews.

Sam will be reuniting with the love of his life, wife Lucy 'Diana' Henderson, son Dale Edward Henderson, parents May and Sam Henderson, brothers Sam (died as infant), Daniel, Ernie, Mark, John (Mark's twin), and sister Ruby.

Sam was very well known for his love of fishing.  Sam had a fishing career of 59 years.  He fished herring (gillnet and seining) and salmon (troll and seining).  Sam fished with many skippers as well when seining herring. Sam got to go out fishing one last time on the October 2nd chum opening.  He will be truly missed out there.

Sam was so happy when he loaded the MV 'Royal Banker' last year with chum two days in a row.  Couldn't take the grin off his face.  He would say "I still got it."  In his early years, he did some tree planting with some of his brothers but his true passion and desire was out on the water.

Sam was a good provider to his wife and children and loved him so dearly.  Sam was a 'big' humble man with a gentle soul.  He loved his seafood, whether is was clams, halibut and salmon.  He would always know when the next clam tide was giving hints to family to go dig some for him. On the evening before his passing, he told his brother Bill "Don't forget my 120 chums."

The family would like to thank Dr. Veerapen for the care he provided to Sam all these years.

Thanks to all the family and friends who came to support his daughter Shelley during this hard time.

At Sam's request there will not be a funeral or memorial service, instead his family will be holding a private burial of his ashes in Campbell River Reserve cemetery later.
