Ruth Gottfried (née McCutcheon), beloved wife of Ted (deceased), cherished mother of Brent (Karen) and Shelley, dearly loved Nana to Rachel (Yaniv Enoch) and Nicholas (Hannah), and great-grandchildren Nava, Ella, Lochlan and Caelyn, passed away Oct 27th at Evergreen Seniors Home.
Born in Kapuskasing, ON, Ruth moved to Pine Falls, MB with her parents and sister Lynn (deceased). She excelled at the piano, graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Music. In Pine Falls Ruth met the love of her life, Ted, and they married in 1950. The family moved to Campbell River in 1952 to work start up at the Elk Falls Mill.
Ruth worked tirelessly as a homemaker, caring for her family, her parents and friends. Ruth loved gardening and in her later years, playing bingo. The house on McCarthy St. was her home for more than sixty years. Many of their neighbours became dear friends.
Ruth was a devoted grandmother. She filled her grandchildren's childhood with regular trips to Steiner's, local parades, gifts, trips, go-kart and mini golf expeditions, sleepovers and jujubes. An endless amount of love and support, rain or shine they attended school and sports events, smiling and bringing Rice Krispie treats for the team.
Ruth's gentle nature, generosity and kindness touched those who knew her. Although Ruth and Ted grew up with very little, Ruth and Ted spent little time on themselves, determined to make life easier for those around them. Ruth will be dearly missed by her family, Hiltons, Freers and friends.
Special thanks to Nadine, Ellen and Claire for all their visits and manicures. Thanks to Dr. Shah
for her kindness. Evergreen staff made her last two years pleasant and we thank them for their patience with her technology.
