Ruth spent her childhood in Wilkie, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of nine children. During WWII she lived in Ocean Falls where she worked in the Sawmill. She moved to the Comox Valley where she met her future husband, Tom. They courted at the Union Bay Dance hall, and were married September 3, 1949. They lived in Port Alberni where Tom worked on road construction. They later moved to Campbell River, where Tom worked on the John Hart Dam, at the Argonaut Mine and at the Elk Falls Mill. Their son Garth was born in 1951 in the Campbell River hospital and daughter Gaye followed in 1955.

Ruth and Tom enjoyed many Summers of camping and fishing at Loveland Lake and Winters in Hemet, California. She worked as a volunteer for more than 30 years at the Hospital Thrift Shop. Ruth was an avid gardener, an accomplished seamstress, knitter, a reader and a wonderful cook. She loved to bake for her friends and family and we loved her for it. She was a champion bowler and spent many afternoons and evenings playing cards with her friends. Her family and her many friends will miss her very much.
