Russ Wasyliw

November 10, 1945 - Oct 11, 2016

Russ passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by close family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Beverly Wasyliw; daughters Cynthia Schiller( Glenn) and Teresa Loukianoff (Mike); grandchildren Jacob, Maddy, and Samantha; brother Bob Wasyliw and family; sisters Leona Axcell (Lance) and family, and Laverne Mawhinny and family; and many other brothers in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Russ was born 70 years ago in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. While growing up his family spent time living in The Pas, Prince Albert and Carragana It was in Carragana that he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Beverly Lewis. Russ began teaching at the age of 19. By the age of 21, his career led him to Campbell River with his young family. He had a reputation as a strict teacher, who also had a soft side that lent encouragement and empathy to students and anyone going through challenges.

Russ adopted a "can do" attitude toward everything. He was always happiest when he helped friends or family. Some of his favourite projects included building houses and boats, rebuilding computers, fixing motors, making wine, and is well known for his yet-to-be-completed "Project XYZ-123 .. 6a". Russ will be greatly missed by family and friends. He leaves behind a lifetime supply of cherished memories and laughter.

A huge thank you to palliative care staff, hospice, doctors, nurses, friends, and family who have helped so much during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Cancer Society or charity of your choice. No service by request.
