In Loving Memory ~
Born Roseann Louella Overby on August 31, 1944 to Elmer and Peggy Overby in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Her heart stopped beating on November 3, 2024 and our world changed. She took so much with her, but left us with so much more.
Her youth growing up in Flin Flon was pretty much textbook for a mining town. There are stories to be shared, but maybe later. Roseann became a licensed hairdresser in the early 60s, and man, could she style! The appointment books, wherever she worked, were filled solid.
We were beneficiaries of her talent. Beehives, toss curls, ringlets - we had a front row seat to the many hair and fashion styles of the time because of Roseann and her friends. Her work took her to a couple of different towns, but Thompson kept calling. This is where she met FRED. She knew he was 'the one'.
Roseann and Fred were married July 10, 1972 in Yellowknife, NWT. They spent the next two months on the road trip of a lifetime, with a tent in the trunk and a canoe on the roof! It was a honeymoon envied by many. Later that year, they landed in Campbell River, British Columbia, the place they have called home for 52 years.
They built a quality life together and enjoyed where they lived. On a motorcycle, in a boat, in an RV, so many adventures side-by-side. By the way, they still get their mail at PO Box 503.
Fred spent his career here working as a miner in many capacities. Roseann had a career change and started working at the hospital; first in the kitchen where she held her own. There were many years that she cooked Christmas dinner for all those in care. She moved within the system and ended her career as a Unit Clerk. She proudly called herself 'the Desk B***.' Beautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Charming and Honest.
Retirement brought even more adventures. More travel there was Paris, but mostly Arizona. Roseann never met a stranger, just recently sharing a conversation she had with friends from Mississippi. If she was your friend, you lucked out!
She managed to live longer than quite a few: Juliette, Audrey, Doreen, Gail, Diane, and Marlene. Not to forget Lynn, who was her bridesmaid when she got married. Lynn lives not far away and their friendship Roseann held very close, friends to her end.
The kitchen was her domain; her food was delicious and plentiful. When you sat at her table she couldn't wait for you to tell her how good it was, because she just knew. We were blessed many times over with Beef Carbonnade a La Flammande, Halibut Plaki, and Specially Spiced Prawns! But we will never forget the surprise on her face when we introduced her to seafood boils, which in turn she made her own. She was a master smoker when it came to salmon and everyone loved getting those jars at Christmas.
Did I mention her favourite colour was GREEN? Emerald, jade, turquoise, hunter, light green or dark!
Very special thank yous go to Dr. Kerry Roberts and Dr. Vanderveen; Home care support staff, and the nursing staff from 3rd floor B wing, for their skills, attention, care, and kindness at this time.
In lieu of flowers Donations to Campbell River SPCA are appreciated.
Roseann leaves her husband Fred Glasgow, sister Lucille (Bill) Kynar, brother Syd (Diane) Overby, sister Cathy Krochak, sister Wanda (Alan) Butler, nephew Shayne, and nieces Sharda and Lindsay. Brother-in-law Ross (Laurette) and family, sister-in-law Shirley (Mark) and family, and brother-in-law Gordon (Colleen) and family.
Our family will grieve, but we will toast, we will share and we will honour her legacy.
In honour of a life well lived, we raise a glass to Roseann with our family's favourite toast:
Here's to lying, cheating,
stealing, and drinking!
- Lying to protect the ones we love
- Cheating only to cheat death
- Stealing only to steal a kiss
- And drinking with family
and the best of friends!
