Ronald grew up in rural English countryside, very active as a boy in athletics, running, soccer, gymnastics; he volunteered to serve with the British army in 1938 and wanted to be a bomber tail gunner but became a member of the Royal Corps of Signals in the 8th Army, serving in the North African and Italian Campaigns.

In 1946 he married long time sweet heart Peggy Doris Lucy Knight; children started arriving in 1947, 1950 and 1956. After World War II he served with the British GPO as a telephone repairman until 1956, when he immigrated to Canada, followed by the family in 1957.

He started work in Dawson Creek, BC with CN Telecommunications where he stayed until retirement in 1980. During that time he was very active with the Royal Canadian Legion, president of the Dawson Creek Chapter, in addition to serving as a very active member in Prince Rupert, Prince George, Chilliwack and Comox. His dedication continued until his physical strength forced him to slow down.

He loved and guided all of the family with his strong moral code, sense of humor and sense of what he believed was right. Earning the respect from family members, fellow employees, employers, acquaintances and friends. His dry sense of humor was ever present until the last few moments of his life.

He will be remembered by all as a dedicated, devout, caring, committed to serving, and honest man who lived to be part of the many experiences of life.

A service to celebrate Ron’s Life will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from the Comox Legion.

In lieu of flowers any donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.
