Dr. Romana Anna Januszewska (nee Szymanska)

November 13, 1933-March 21, 2014

Roma passed away suddenly on March 21, 2014. Devoted wife of the late Tomasz Januszewski, mother to Stefan (late Sylvie) and Michael (Maria), and the late Barbara, and grandmother to Paul, Thomas and Emilie. Roma was the daughter of Stefan Szymanski and Romana Millicer, and sister to the late Jan Szymanski.

Roma was born in Warsaw, Poland, raised and educated in England and graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of Liverpool in 1956. She moved to Canada with her husband, Tom and began her distinguished medical career first as a General Practitioner and later as a Psychiatrist and Associate Professor at University of Toronto until her retirement in 2004.

From late 2005 to early 2010, Roma joined her son Steve’s family in Campbell River, BC, where she made a number of good friends. She then moved back to the Toronto area and settled into Amica at Swan Lake senior’s residence where she enjoyed her final years. Recently she spent time in Mexico City at her grandson Thomas’ wedding to Priscila Zuniga where the family spent a glorious week together. Roma will be dearly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.

A visitation and rosary will be held at Turner and Porter’s Yorke Chapel in Toronto on Friday, April 4th, 2014 from 6-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Cathedral on Saturday, April 5th at 10am.

If desired, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
