February 20, 1946 - January 6, 2022
After a long battle with Alzheimer's, Moke passed away surrounded by his loving family in Campbell River, BC. Moke was born to Bob and Elsie Spetifore in Vancouver and came home to Tsawwassen to meet his two older brothers Warren and Lorne.
Brothers Dave, Greg and their sister Rose came along in the following years, and they all enjoyed life on the family farm. In 1953, they moved to Pemberton, cleared land of sticks and stones and started farming their famous seed potatoes as R. Spetifore & Sons Ltd.
In 1966 while attending his brother Lorne's wedding as a groomsman, one of the bridesmaids gave Moke a wink and a smile, and cupid's arrow struck. Moke married Sandra two years later and they began a wonderful life together with 2021 marking their 53rd year of marriage. Their daughter Laurel was born in 1970, and son Aaron in 1972.
Always with a vision, Moke set his eyes on expanding the farm and in 1985, moved to Creston BC to begin farming on a larger scale. Along with his brothers Dave, Greg and his father Bob, they became the largest seed potato farm in British Columbia at the time, growing and farming nearly 1000 acres a year. Moke was truly in his element on the farm, enjoying all aspects of the farm life. They moved to Campbell River in 2009 to be closer to family and watch the grandchildren grow. Moke was a kind, generous, hard-working, family man that touched the hearts of all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, his two children Laurel (Dave) and Aaron (Lisa); his grandchildren Cody, Corey, and Heather; brothers Warren (Liisa), Lorne (Maureen), Dave (Linda), Greg (Janice), sister Rose (Dieter), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Society. A funeral mass and memorial gathering will be held at a later date in the Creston Valley. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Yuculta lodge, your kindness and professionalism warmed our hearts and will be recalled fondly.
