Richard passed away peacefully at the Campbell River Hospital on Friday, February 8th, 2008, at the age of 69.

Richard will be sadly missed by his brother John (Pat) Parkes, and sisters Ester (Alec) Weir and Betty Kay (Doug) Zaharichuk; daughters Stacy Freeman, Robin (Greg) Illchuk and Sue (Bruce) Reid; grandchildren Nicole, Brett and Cole; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Les and Marie Parkes.

Richard was born in Vegreville, Alberta and grew up in Jasper and Edmonton. He graduated from St Joseph's High School and went on to complete a Business Degree in 1960 at Gonzaga University in Spokane. He then attended a Master's Degree Business Program at the University of Oregon. He owned a trucking company in Rainbow Lake and Inuvik, NWT. He later resided mainly in the Edmonton area where he had a successful career in industrial sales and finance. In 1989 he semi-retired in B.C. and enjoyed sailing on his "First Lark" in Victoria and later in Comox and Campbell River. His latest passions were puttering about on his sailboat, travelling, and playing the stock market. Richard will be sadly missed and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date on the waters of Desolation Sound.
