Raymond (Ray) Clarence Thomas was born on November 30th, 1942 to parents John and Agatha Thomas in Wilkie, Saskatchewan. He passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2019 surrounded by family.
As a young man, Ray married his first wife Marleen and subsequently moved to Campbell River. Together, they had four children; Glade, Cheryl, Sheila, and Melanie. In 1981, he married his second wife, Eleanor. Together, they raised two children, Risto and Cheryl-Anne.
Ray Retired in 2003 and enjoyed his retirement playing music, travelling, and fishing. He particularly enjoyed travelling to Yuma, Arizona during the cold winter months where he made many new friends and enjoyed the numerous jam sessions. He spent many years playing with the Old-time fiddlers, branch 17. He also enjoyed growing dahlias with his wife and growing giant pumpkins.
Ray is survived by his brother Alfred, his sisters Joyce (Barry) and Lorretta (Webster), his children Glade, Cheryl, Shelia, Melanie, and Risto, his spouse, Eleanor, his granddaughter Cheryl-Anne (Patrick), stepdaughters Cheryl and Teresa along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved dearly. Ray is predeceased by his mother Agatha and Father John, brothers Leo and Alvin along with his sister Bernice.
Ray's family would like to extend a special thanks to the palliative care team at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for making his last days as comfortable as possible.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
