Peter was born in Amsterdam, Holland August 4th, 1928 and passed away quietly at Campbell River General Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. He is predeceased by his parents, Pieter and Alida Rijpkema and sisters, Tina Sinkeldam and Suus Taurel.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorraine, son Peter Jr. of Courtenay, daughter Susan, Halifax NS, and numerous relatives and friends.
Peter immigrated from Holland in 1954 where he worked on several dairy farms including Gilmore Farms. He then farmed his own herd of Gurnsey dairy cattle for over 25 years in Richmond (Stevston Highway) and East Delta (96th Street) until 1987, then moved to Vancouver Island where he lived in Willow Point/Campbell River.
A Celebration of Peter's Life will be held at the Campbell River United Church, 415 Pinecrest Road, Campbell River on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 2p.m. with reception to follow. The family wish to give great thanks to the Drs. & Nurses of 2nd & 3rd floors Campbell River Hospital & 6th floor at Victoria General. Island Funeral Services Elk Falls Cremation and Reception Centre, entrusted with arrangements. Donations in Peter's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
