July 1, 1929 – March 8, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather – Ray Johnson.

Ray will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Elaine Johnson, daughter Karen Johnson, and her children Paul and Olivia Carter, daughter Dianne Johnson, and her daughters Alysha Torrence (Ollie) and Brianna Hewlett (Kolt) and their children Isaac Ray and Evelyn. Also left to mourn, brothers Leo Johnson (Beverly), and Baldur Johnson (Maisie) and their families.

Ray came to Campbell River from Manitoba in 1953 accompanying his sweetheart Elaine and her family. Ray proposed to Elaine on her prom night, they were married in 1955, built a home and established their family. Ray was a proud professional truck driver who worked many years driving a fuel truck for G.E. Lawrence – his favourite route being the run out to Myra Falls mine.

In the early years, Ray enjoyed fishing, he joined the Lions club and was president of the club at the time the Lions Seniors Cottages were constructed. Ray loved to curl and he loved to square dance with Elaine.

In their retirement years, Ray and Elaine spent many happy winters in Mesa, Arizona where Ray was active in the wood-working shop and came home each spring with gifts lovingly turned on the lathe. When at home, Ray would walk everyday along the seawalk.

Ray was and will always be, a wonderful man to all that were blessed to know him.

The family wishes to thank Dr Veerapen for the care he extended to Ray and would also like to thank the staff at Evergreen Seniors Home – Jamie, Sarah, Martha and Norma to name a few.

No service per request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
