With great sadness we announce the passing of Dick Whittington at Campbell River Hospital on October 21,2021 at the age of 72. Dick was born in Campbell River on June 15,1949 to Bill and Maud Whittington. He had several medical issues in recent years but stayed strong and witty right to the end.
Dick is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Maud. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 32 years, Peggy; his son Kris, step- children Christi and Sean (Mica), his only grandchild, McKenna and his sister, Dorathy.
Dick was raised on Read Island with his logging family until the age of 15. He loved his rugged upbringing on Read Island and always said it was the best playground in the world. In 1964 his family moved to Quadra Island so that Dick could go to high school. Dick fished and logged throughout his years and he loved to travel, especially on the various motorcycles he had. He told many stories of trips with his young son, Kris, strapped to him. Later, he and Peggy spent many happy weeks cruising on their Harley in the States and Canada. His greatest love was his sawmill on Quadra, which will continue to be run by his family and his long-time employee and "son", Rod.
Dick loved to talk, and his voice and laughter were known and loved by everyone. He had many friends and acquaintances and will be greatly missed.
At his request, no service will be held.
