Norma Soderholm

September 1, 1937-November 14, 2012

Norma passed peacefully in her sleep at home, on November 14, 2012 after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. She also put up a courageous fight with mixed dementia.

Norma is survived by Helmer, her husband of 29 years. Her daughter Michele Williamson from Courtenay. Helmer brought Norma another family. Her daughter Elizabeth Blasner (Steven) from Alberta and sons Leif (Lois) from Ontario and Ben from California. She has three grandchildren: Erin, Katrina and Rachel. She has one great grandchild Noah. She has numerous relatives in England. Norma was born September 1, 1937 in London, England. She emigrated to Canada in 1962 and moved to Campbell River in 1982.

Norma was a nurse who worked as the Assistant Director of Nursing at the Campbell River Hospital. She also worked for the Diabetes Education Centre. Later, she thoroughly enjoyed working as a Marriage Commissioner. Norma was an activist; she helped to save the Beaver Lodge Lands from development. She was an excellent public speaker and was Master of Ceremonies at many events including the Friendship Bazaar. She was a keen member of the Toastmaster’s Club.

The family would like to thank Dr. Veerapen for his service and support for Norma. Thank you to all the people from Home Support Services and Homecare nurses.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Elk Falls Cremation and Reception Centre, Elk Falls Cemetery, Highway 28 at General Hill, Campbell River at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 24, 2012 with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the B.C. Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
