KVELLO,

Norene Gertrude

(Olmsted)

January 17, 1912 –

August 2, 2007

Norene passed away at home with her family and friends at her bedside. She leaves to mourn her two sons, Lawrence (Pat) and Gordie (Sybil), 8 grandchildren, Cindy (Rick), Earl (Marlea), David (Julie), Susie (John), Tom (Janet), Mark (Sandra), Cindy (Rob), and Corinne, 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was predeased by her siblings, Elizabeth, Kenneth and Allen, her daughter Wilma and granddaughter, Marina.

Norene was a very beautiful woman who was admired and loved by many. She was born in Friday Harbor, Wash. while her parents were visiting friends and was the 3rd child of 4. She grew up in Silver Valley, BC and often mentioned her childhood years there. Norene spent most of her life living on the coast with many of those years on Cortes Island. During her lifetime of 95 ? years she could be found working as a cashier at Edmonton airport restaurant, as a nurse’s aide in Campbell River and St. Paul’s hospitals, cooking for a crew of 25 in a logging camp, driving taxi (that is a story in itself), picking salal and ferns (until she retired at 84 years), fishing, gardening, feeding birds and crocheting. She got great pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. She loved caring for any stray cat that came along.

Life was so precious to Norene and her will to live so strong that she was able against all odds to continue living until she decided it was time to go.

A very special thank you to everyone at Sunshine Manor for loving and caring for Norene as if she was your own. You were wonderful friends to her.

Thank you to Dr. Kennedy for your kindness and care of Norene. She appreciated it very much.

Norene’s sense of humour and positive attitude to life will be missed by all of us who were privileged to share in it.
