"Family is not an important thing. It is everything." Michael J. Fox

We lost our dear beloved Nanette in a battle against an unforgiving cancer. She fought with grace, dignity, humour and always so much concern for those she was leaving behind.

Nanette was born in North Vancouver on Mother's Day and she epitomized all that motherhood stands for. She was a caring, kind, supportive, and nurturing mother to her beautiful daughter Heather, and really for everyone she loved. Her daughter says she was everything you could want in a mom. "She was a Super Mom."

Nanette came to Campbell River with Heather in 1993 and shortly after that met Doug when she was working at the Willows Pub. They had a happy marriage of 24 years together sharing a love of family. Nanette was happiest at home in her garden or surrounded by her family and friends. She did everything in her life with style and class and made a lovely and welcome home for Heather, Doug and his children.

The people that were lucky enough to be in Nanette's life knew they were cherished, loved and supported. She was a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, and when asked, shared her honest opinion. At the end Nanette was surrounded by a circle of family and friends that adored her.

We know that Nanette would want us to make sure to thank the incredible nursing team on 3B, their kindness and compassion eased her pain. She wanted to thank the Drs. Mary and Rob Ramsey for their diligent and kind care and especially Dr. Tanja Daws who gave her the peaceful and dignified goodbye that she wanted.

Through this journey that we took with Nanette we learned how important the people around us are. Please take the time to tell and show them, every day and in every way, what they mean to you. That is what Nanette did.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to the cancer charity of your choice.
