Milton (Mike) Neufeld passed away August 2, 2021 at the age of 88 after a lengthy illness. Mike was a lifelong logger who started in the bush at the age of 15. He worked at every facet of the trade from the Fraser Valley to north Vancouver Island.
He moved to Campbell River in 1974 at the age of 41 and began a career as an independent contractor and true 'Gypo' logger. Many contracts and timber sales were tackled in the next 25 years. With varying degrees of success, all the ventures had one adage "everyone gets paid".
He had a loyal group of top of the line characters who were always willing to answer the call of "Let's go logging". Far too many to name but a nod to them all.
When he retired in his mid-sixties he fell back on his interest in fine wood turning and gardening. He was a perfectionist with both and left a lasting impression on anyone who looked at his results.
Mike is predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Margaret, two sisters Nora and Annabel, two brothers-in-law Walter and Bud. Mike is survived by Verna, his wife of 67 years. Sons Brent and Kevin (Laura). Grandchildren Jordan (Haze), Tyler (Hillary), Kaela (Gerard) and Shawna (David). Step-grandchildren Melissa (Darren) and Tori (Brenda). Mike also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren Lyndon, Leo, Vivienne, Nathan, Amelia, Isaac, Dominic and Danica. Mike is also survived by his sister-in-law Doris.
The family would like to thank the home care workers that helped with Mike's care while he was at home and the 3rd floor staff at Campbell River Hospital for the last 5 weeks. Thanks to Dave from the BC Ambulance service for his weekly visits to check on Mike while he was at home.
Mike requested no service so let's just say goodbye to the loudest voice ever heard on the sidehill. RIP Mike, you deserve it.
