Michael Nicholas (Nick) GOLINSKI

August 20, 2012

November 19, 1940 –August 20, 2012

Nick died peacefully at home after suffering from a pancoast cancer tumor for the past four months. He was born in Campbell River and always claimed that he wouldn’t live anywhere else as this was the most beautiful place in the world to be. He leaves behind his wife, Joy, daughter Karen (Josh Hamlett), son Michael (Courtney), and daughter Carmen (Dave Pringle). He was blessed with three grandchildren: Donavon and Max Hamlett and Grace Golinski. He will also be missed by his two sisters, Gail Kretz (Donald Engel) and Fia Goulet, as well as many other family members and friends.

Nick worked at Elk Falls mill for 34 years until he retired in May of 1997. He was skilled at using his hands and spent his time building, working on his vintage car, taking care of the family home, and cooking superb meals.

He enjoyed many quiet hours working on his extensive stamp collection. He loved books, especially about local history, and retained what he read. Although he and Joy travelled extensively, he was always glad to come home. Nick placed great emphasis on living his life as an honourable man. As his family and friends know, he definitely achieved this goal.

An open house gathering for family and friends will be held at 3925 Appian Way on Sunday, September 2, 2012 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
