Michael (Mike) William Sumner passed away peacefully on Sept. 9th, 2017 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving wife, children and dog Mable.
Mike is survived by his wife Karen; parents Richard and Dorothy Sumner; children Meighan (Frank), Michael (Christine) and Jeanine; grandchildren Noah, Hannah, Kaden, and Kellen. Also survived by his sister Margie, brother Richard (Laura) and niece and nephew Tamara and Eric.
Mike was a loving husband, father, papa, son, brother and uncle. He spent his life working on the ocean. Mike held a great love for the ocean, fishing, hunting, being in the garden and yard with his wife Karen and having his grandchildren and dog Mable near. He was a true inspiration and a remarkable example of great strength. He touched many and will be greatly missed. He will never be forgotten and will always remain in our hearts.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kareem, Dr. Graham and Dr. Ramsey, along with the home care staff that came every day, in particular Steve.
A service will be held on Sept 30th, 2017 at 1:00pm the Royal Canadian Legion on Quadra Island. We ask that in Mike's memory, donations be made to the Annual Quadra Island Trout Derby (c/o Sally Bradshaw at the Quadra Credit Union - 657 Harper Rd Quathiaski Cove V0P 1N0). This was one of his most cherished and loved events.
