Michael Colin Harris

May 24, 1951- August 7, 2013

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Colin Harris, 62, on August 7, 2013 at his home in Campbell River. He was born on May 24, 1951 in Toronto, Ontario to David Edmund and Mary Elizabeth (Charters) Harris.

Mike was predesceased by his father David Edmund Harris.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Lynda, his children Lauren McGrath and Daniel Harris (Ashley), his mother Mary Harris, his brother William “Bill” Harris of Charlottetown, PEI, sister Susan Campbell of Grand Prairie, Texas; and his grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kevin Tidd-Mills, Kayden and Carter Harris. He also leaves behind many other cherished family, friends and colleagues.

Mike grew up in Toronto, Ontario where he attended York University. In1974 he moved to the West Coast and began his careeer as a land surveyor. In 1980 he went to McElhanney Consulting Services where he worked until his retirement in 2013. Mike has been a valued member of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors since 1986 and sat as chairman on Campbell River’s Board of Variance. Mike was an avid sailor and served as Commodore of the Campbell River Yacht Club for a number of years.

A memorial service will be held from 1:00-4:00p.m. on Wednesday, August 14 at the Campbell River Maritime Heritage Centre, 621 Island Highway. The Harris family would like to thank Dr. Robert Ramsey and the wonderful nurses of the Chemothereapy Department at the Campbell River Hospital.
