It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our Beloved Mike after a courageous, hard fought battle with esophageal cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born in Maple Ridge BC, moving to Campbell River with his family at age 10 when his Mother Grace married George.
After graduating from Carhi High Mike joined the military but after a horrific army vehicle rollover in 1983 during basic training Mike returned home to recover and worked as a lifeguard at the local pool.
Mike reenlisted with the PPCLI and went to Germany with his unit where he was able to travel and see sights and do things he could only have imagined.The 160 km, 4 day Nijmegen march in Holland was one of many highlights of his time over seas.
While stationed there Mike had a tragic accident rendering him a quadriplegic. He lived at Gordon House in West Vancouver for 9 years before returning home to Campbell River.
Mike was predeceased by his Father Paul Wind and his Mother Grace Bergsma.
Mike is survived and dearly missed by his Wife and best friend Brenda, Step daughters Gloria and Christina. Grandchildren Summer, Chloe,Tomas and Victoria. Step Father George Bergsma, Sisters Alisa (Rick), Audrey (Lloyd), Brother Kurt (Lisa) Mikes Twin Sister Margaret (Derek), Step Brothers and Sister David (Cathy) Joanna (Paolo), Mark, Dan (Sandra), Jim (Laura), plus numerous Nephews and Nieces and extended family and friends. Mike was an inspiration to us all and a great example of a life well lived.
His smile, laughter and positive attitude is how Mike will be lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Jan 13 at 2 pm. The Eagles Hall 1999 14 Ave, Campbell River, BC V9W 4J2.
