June 3, 1931 - August 26, 2020
Melvin was born to Oscar and Helga Ost in Ocean Falls, BC, a paper mill town. He was the only son in a family of six children. After high school he worked in the mill, and on July 7, 1956 he married Frieda Krahn. They raised three children...Laura, Martin, and Dan, who each married and had two kids of their own. There are also five great-grandchildren. All of Mel's extended family were very important to him.
In 1966, Mel moved his family to Campbell River, BC to work at the Elk Falls mill. He retired after 42 years as a paper maker.
Mel was an avid fisherman and loved being out in his boat. The family has so many great memories of joining him in his favourite pastime.
At age 75, he committed his life to Jesus Christ, and has now gone home to spend eternity with Him. While he will be greatly missed, we know we will join him again one day.
The family would like to thank the Discovery Care Center, and in particular the 2nd Floor Hornby Unit, for the special care they provided Mel during his last years.
