Max Vorkampff

1932- 2013

Max was born in Pernau, Estonia in 1932. He was a husband, a father, grandfather,great-grandfather, brother and friend. After a youth defined by the realities of war in Europe, Max came to Canada in 1952 as a 20-year old searching for a better life. He worked hard as a labourer, contractor, employee and employer and finally as a consultant. The landscape of Vancouver Island bears witness to much of his work in the homes, schools and commercial buildings he was part of, as well as the magnificent gardens he created.

Max was an action-oriented man who believed in moving forward, in recognizing and learning from his mistakes, in doing his best all the time, and in appreciating the abundance in his life. He had high expectations of and for the people he loved, and offered them unconditional love and support in return. His high standards of conduct earned respect and esteem from young and old, relatives, friends, colleagues and adversaries.

Max’s love for his children and grandchildren and his enjoyment in their accomplishments never dimmed, and his deep love with Anne-Marie sustained him through a difficult illness.

Max is predeceased by his sister (Lisel). He is survived by his wife Anne-Marie, sisters Hella (Willi), Thea (Heino), son Eric (Marietta), daughters Tara (Olaf), Fay (Carey), step-children Scott (Shannon), Michael (Lauren), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
