Died Sept. 14th, 2002 at Yucalta Lodge in Campbell River. She was born December 17th, 1912 in Tissdale, Saskatchewan. When she was a young girl, her family left the farm in Sask. and moved to B.C., ending up on Cortes Island. She moved many times after that but Cortes Is. was always the place she returned to, for it was the place that when you go there, they have to take you in. Thirteen years ago she reluctantly left the island for the last time to live in the Lions Senior Citizen House on Ironwood St. in Campbell River. She is survived by her daughter at Tucker Vernie of Bellvue, WA., Peter Vernie of Albaquerque, New Mexico and Janet V. Moore of Seattle, WA., and four greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Cortes Is. in the summer of 2003. Memorial donations can be made to the Campbell River Hospice Society, 102-301 Dogwood St., Campbell River, BC, V9W 2Y1.
