Mary Laura Elizabeth

April 10, 1924 – April 28, 2011

Born in Brandon, Manitoba

Passed away peacefully in Campbell River at the age 87 years.

Laura was predeceased by her husband Verne in 2005.

Laura is survived by her three children: son Jim (Judi), daughters Laura-Jean (Brian) and Lee (Dennis). She also leaves 7 grandchildren: Wayne (Sue), Robert (Sonya), Len (Colleen), Gordon (Kate), Tracy (Matt), Jason and Justin (Danielle) and 14 great-grandchildren: Lindsay (Marshall), Tyler, Amanda, Terry, Colton, Tessa, Ryan, Brooke, Carter, Russell, Marshall, Keiver, Trent and one due in May and 2 great-great-grandchildren: Emma and Alana. As well she leaves numerous nieces and nephews and her brother Vern at North Bay, Ontario.

Laura was a long time resident of Campbell River moving here with her husband & infant son in 1945.

Laura along with Verne was a founding member of the Campbell River Curling Club, a life time member of the O.A.P. and the Campbell River Rock and Gem Club. Laura also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Ladies Eagles and the Lion’s Den where she enjoyed many hours playing her crib and whist.

Laura was also an avid knitter and loved to make crafts for the bazaars but her real passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Laura & Verne also enjoyed their retirement years together travelling in their fifth wheel trailer especially winters in Yuma, Arizona.

A memorial tea for Laura will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 @ the Eagles Hall from 10 am to noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation in Laura’s memory. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Gert Jacobs and the fabulous nurses on 3 North, 2 South & especially 2 North who took such wonderful care of our Mom/Gramma/Great-Gramma.
