Mary Hay

March 28, 1911-

August 24, 2009


Mary Hay passed away peacefully surrounded by love on August 24, 2009 at New Horizons community of Care. She was predeceased by her husband Ed in 1983, daughter Kathleen in 1999, and eight brothers and sisters. Mary is survived by her sister Isabel Bell, Northern Ireland, and by her children Doreen (Tom), Valerie (Bob) and Ian (Chris) and son in law Art. Also survived by her grandchildren Keli (Ryan), Dianne, Jennifer (Tyler), Alyson, Kristine (Luke), Graham (Kris), Meghan, Andrew (Eliza), and great grandchildren, Talia, Steel, Charlotte, Andrea, Clare, Leah and Carys, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Rathfriland, Northern Ireland. While nursing in England during WWII, she met Ed and emigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1946, settling in Dawson Creek, BC. In 1958 Ed, Mary and family moved to Campbell River where she resided for over 50 years.

Mary was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #137 and charter member of P.E.O., Chapter AZ.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sunshine Lodge, New Horizons and Dr. Jon Walker for the excellent care that Mary always received.

In lieu of flowers Mary has requested donations to the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 137, 301 11th Ave., Campbell River, BC V9W 4G2.

A memorial service will be held at Sutton’s Funeral Chapel, 502 South Dogwood St., Campbell River, BC. MONDAY, August 31, 2009 at 1pm.
