Mary Berggren (nee Ewanchuk), age 88, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2021.
Mary was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and began her nursing career in Edmonton, Alberta. She met and married Roy Berggren and they settled in Regina, Saskatchewan and then Wynyard, Saskatchewan.
Roy and Mary had three daughters, Kathy (Brian), Brenda (David) and Rhonda (Rob). The family moved to Campbell River in 1972. Roy was the Public Health Inspector and Mary eventually became the Director of Nursing at the Campbell River General Hospital and was instrumental in establishing the Campbell River Hospice.
Roy and Mary were also very active in the Shriners and the Daughters of the Nile. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, crafts and her ocean view.
Mary was so proud of her grandchildren Matthew, Breanna, Alexander, Michael, Brendan, Zachary and Jakob. She was also very excited to be able to meet her great-grandchildren Henry and Emmett.
No service is scheduled and the family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations can be made to the Campbell River Hospice.
